Hi I'm Lou manfredini Aces Home expert And in this video I'll show you how to Prep your kitchen for a backsplash Installation There are a lot of different materials You can use for a backsplash like Ceramic or glass tile or there are even Some peel and stick options but Preparing your kitchen for installation Of these different materials is pretty Much the same first it's a good idea to Cover your countertops with paper or a Drop cloth to keep the dust and debris Off of them you want the surface you're Adhering your backsplash to be smooth an Uneven surface will make it harder to Adhere the new tile now in this kitchen We removed a ceramic tile backsplash and As you can see it's really not smooth Use a putty knife to scrape away any Pieces of mortar or glue that was left Behind when you remove the old Backsplash once you have the old mortar Scraped away start layering on the Spackle to smooth out the surface this Will cover any holes you may have Patched or any fine particles Left Behind from the scraping process layer On the Spackle until the wall is smooth And allow it to dry and then you're Ready to start start installing your new Tile coming up next I'll show you how to Install a glass tile backsplash Foreign
